Air Sea Rescue At Sandown.
Mar 3rd, 2008 | By Citizen Media | Isle of Wight News From The Island PulseSandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat (SSILB) were called out on Saturday 1st March, to 2 persons in the water who could not right their catamaran. One person had drifted off and was heading toward Culver Cliffs, Coastguard rescue helicopter ‘MU’ was also tasked just before SSILB to pick both of them up and then landed them at Yaverland.
Both were well, but shook up by the incident and were checked over by HM Coastguard Ventnor.
SSILB towed their vessel round to White cliff Bay, as the wind was lifting the damaged sail, spinnaker which blocked the view of the SSILB crew member who was left onboard the catamaran to helm (RC) and was not a good option to take it back to Yaverland.
The vessel was then beached at White cliff Bay and awaited the owners to collect the vessel and make arrangements for it to be taken back to Yaverland.
