Council publishes major public survey results.
Our Council says it’s not hiding behind the facts as it publishes the results of a major new public survey. It was carried out during the summer by an external company that spoke to four hundred random Islanders. Questions ranged from everything including how the council was seen in the media, and if residents felt unsafe because of anti-social behavior.

The main findings include 85% of people feeling the council could be doing better, although 44% felt County Hall was improving the Island. One surprising finding showed that of all those surveyed who would criticise the council – most were employees or lived in a council-owned property.

SOME OF THE MAIN POINTS FROM THE SURVEY ARE LISTED BELOW

Council Press Release Date: 29/11/2006

Islanders have had a chance to put their views to the council in a survey designed to find out what’s important to local residents. Top of the list are improvements to the way the council delivers a number of services – including road quality, the cleanliness of the island and tackling anti-social behaviour. The council is now drawing up plans to prioritise these issues to respond to local residents’ concerns.

The findings of the report are based on 400 interviews with Isle of Wight Residents aged 18 and over carried out by QA Research. The survey was conducted by telephone with a random sample of residents between 28 July and 10 August 2006 and is weighted to the known profile of residents.
