Jenny Button reports:   The Annual Review of UK Local authority websites has recently been published and according to the Isle of Wight Council’s website they ‘Score Highly in Socitm Review’ .

The council website www.iwight.com was also highlighted as being one of only five local government sites to have remained in the list of top unitary authority websites at least five times throughout the past ten years. (more…)

Eco Island Ethos In New Eco Towns.

Carolyn Keene reports:   While Island residents have been pumped up with the Isle of Wight Council Eco Island scheme, the government have just unveiled a shortlist of “eco-towns” to be built across the country.

Eco-towns will be the first new towns since the 1960s and will tackle the combined challenges of climate change, the need for more sustainable living and a real shortage of housing for families and first-time buyers. (more…)

Fred Caygill reports:   Lifeboat crews from the Isle of Wight, along with HM Coastguard and the RNLI are to feature in a fifth series of the BBC’s Seaside Rescue starting on Sunday, 6th April on BBC One at 6:30 pm.

Ring of Steel On Abuse of Drink and Drugs.John Coles reports:  A ‘Ring of Steel’ initiative targeting drink and drugs on the Isle of Wight, has been hailed a success.

The month-long blitz centered on Ryde and Cowes ferry ports was led by police with the support of officers from the Force’s Specialist Operations teams.  (more…)
