Isle of Wight Green Issues: Island Pulse Image Equity Green.

Brian Postill reports:  Having recently seen on TV South the hopes of the Isle of Wight to go totally self sufficient in power in the next few years.

I had an idea about using the powerful tides that run  between the Island and the mainland by piers that could incorporate water turbines in their construction.  (Such as seen in old films about water mills connected to geared drive shafts that ran small factories). (more…)

Delays Follow Fire On Isle of Wight Ferry.

Fred Caygill reports: Travellers on Wightlink ferries are facing delays today following yesterdays fire aboard the ‘Our Lady Pamela’ ferry. 

At half past four on Tuesday 15th April, Solent Coastguard received a call from the ‘Our Lady Pamela’ Wightlink passenger ferry reporting that it had an engine fire on board and was currently proceeding to Ryde Pier. (more…)

David Newble reports:   The Isle of Wight Tradings Standards “Buy With Confidence” scheme, to help consumers avoid rip-off merchants and cowboys is celebrating after having signed up its 200th member.

“Buy With Confidence” for the Isle of Wight was launched in 2005 to make sure that local businesses trade fairly, are trustworthy and keep to the spirit and letter of the law. (more…)

Simon Butler reports:  Isle of Wight Council and Southern Vectis are joining forces in a bid to make bus travel more attractive to school students.

Both organisations are keen to encourage more young people to travel by public transport, and to make the experience good enough to keep young people using buses after they leave education.  Building on the hugely popular ‘Student Rider’ scheme, the focus has now turned to delivering increased quality of services. Neil Oliver reports:  The Classic Boat Museum will be presenting ‘Old Salt’s Tales’ tonight at 7pm.  Stories are to be told by Isle of Wight residents about deeds and misdeeds on, or around the shores of the Island,
