BT Release Tickets For Isle Of Wight Festival.

Carolyn Keene reports:  New Isle of Wight Festival’s primary sponsor BT, have released an extra 5,000 tickets for this years Isle Of Wight Festival, which takes place at Seaclose Park, Newport, Isle Of Wight from 13th-15th June.

Voted the Best Major Festival at the UK Festival Awards in 2007, the three-day event had sold the previous allocation of tickets in a matter of days, however the festival’s new sponsor, BT, have made more available. (more…)

Isle of Wight National Year Of Reading.

Image: Island Pulse.David Newble reports:  The newly elected High Sheriff, popular TV personality and author Alan Titchmarsh (pictured) will launch the Isle of Wight’s National Year of Reading at Lord Louis Library in Newport on Friday, April 25th, from 3.30 to 4.30pm.

Mr Titchmarsh who is the author of best selling fiction and non-fiction works will be talking about his love of reading and signing copies of his books which will be on sale at the library courtesy of Waterstones. (more…)

Police Report Isle of Wight Crime In Decline.

Carolyn Keene reports:   The latest annual performance figures from the British Crime Survey reflect the Isle of Wight as being one of the safest places in the country.

The results from the survey, which measures public satisfaction, show overall crime is down 8.8 per cent by more than 15,000 offences, while detection rates are up across the board. (more…)

John Coles reports:  Isle of Wight Detectives investigating a burglary at a house in Newport are trying to trace a Good Samaritan who recovered a stolen handbag that it’s believed was discarded in the River Medina.

The brown leather bag was taken from the address in York Road sometime between 11.30pm, Thursday, April 3rd and 7.30am Friday, April 4th. (more…)

Witness Appeal Following Assault In Newport.

John Coles reports:   Isle of Wight Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault on a group of women in the early hours of Sunday, April 6th in Newport.

Maritime And Coastguard Strike.

Vincent Woods reports:  The Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) has announced their intention to take 24-hour strike action on 11th-12th April and again on 23rd-24th April.  The service offered from the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) will see members withdrawing from non-essential 999 emergency duties.
