The Isle of Wight Council has been cited as top in the country for its work in making parish councils more effective.

A report produced by the University of Wales on behalf of the government praises the council’s efforts in the Quality Parish Scheme a government initiative that aims to equip Parish Councils to take on a stronger role in their local communities. (more…)

Ozone Up First “Summer Smog” of 2007.

Warm, sunny, weather forecast over Southern England over the next few days is likely to lead to the first summer smog episode of 2007.

“Fantastic” Changes for Newchurch Primary.

Newchurch Primary school impressed Ofsted inspectors so much during a recent visit that it has been taken out of Special Measures (SM) and given a Grade 2 ‘Good’ rating. The change has led one parent to writing:

Fate of Priory School Decided.

Priory School has been given the go-ahead to continue operating from Luccombe Road in Shanklin.

Members of the Isle of Wight Council’s development control sub-committee have decided to remove a condition made in 2005 largely on highways grounds, that had gave the private school until July 31st to vacate the building. (more…)
