Fire Destroys Thatched Chinese Restaurant in Ryde.

Fire broke out early this morning at the Beijing Palace opposite the Canoe Lake in Ryde.  The emergency services attended and it took six fire engines with aerial appliances and breathing equipment to tackle the blaze.  However, fire crews had to withdraw from the scene at around 8am when the thatched building collapsed.

Construction companies are being urged to step up security after a spate of burglaries from building sites across the Isle of Wight.  Over the past week, there have been five reported incidents in Ryde, Sandown and Seaview where power tools and other building equipment have been taken.
