Letter From a Small Island: Is it all a waste?

: Vexillarius @Island Pulse : August 31st, 2006

Dear World

Is it all a waste?

We’ve all seen it.  Rubbish in the hedgerows, a fridge in a field gateway, a scabby old mattress on a roadside verge, even a car abandoned, number plates removed (and probably engine and body numbers obliterated) in a lay-by.

I am not saying that our island is knee deep in the stuff but when it does happen, it is an eyesore.  The despoiling of the countryside with household rubbish is a real problem.  The council are working on it and where they can trace the origin of the dumped material, they take action.  It is not, however, an easy task.

HSE challenges people to ‘take a risk’ at Brands Hatch

: Island Pulse News : August 31st, 2006

The Health and Safety Executive recognises that People encounter risks everyday and that it is not possible to eliminate all of them. It believes that people should not be discouraged from taking part in activities that carry an element of risk, but rather the risks they do encounter should be sensibly managed. Additionally, those who organise such activities should not be put off by unnecessary paperwork.

The HSE will launch its ‘Sensible Risk’ principles at Brands Hatch on Thursday 31st August, illustrating how people should have fun safely and not be put off by exaggerated risks, previously reported HSC on Island Pulse www.islandpulse.co.uk/b2/?p=124
